The assignments that are due this week are the equivalent of your quarterly exam. You will have the Digital Story Telling project and two of your most complex Blog posts due that will use all of the skills that we have been practicing this quarter. There is a lot due this week, please manage your time wisely.
The digital story telling project is due on Thursday. Monday you should have all images done. Tuesday you should have all narration done. Wednesday you should have all effects done. Thursday is final editing and downloading.
Blog post #1:
This is a challenging one…You are going to put a voice thread (remember I showed you an example on Friday) onto your blog. All of the directions are on the wiki. The topic is very easy, yet can be so difficult. Tell story about the person you want to be. You must have no more or less than five pictures and one spoken sentence per picture. I would really like to leave “Tell a story about the person you want to be” open to your interpretation. There is no wrong answer. If you really need help let me know.
Blog post #2:
You are going to create a post honoring one person that either was born, or died on the day you create your post. You can find a list at the Today In History website. You need to have a several sentences explaining what person added to our world — what their contribution was to the time period that they lived in. Include two links to your sources and two pictures.
And a quick note from learnerblogs: “Edublogs has been getting more users than ever of late… making things a bit slow, sorry! We’re fixing this with a brand new server cluster in the next week (two max) so please bear with us.”
Today you are going to start your digital story telling adventure on the Revolutionary War. By the end of the week you should have all research and images ready to go to start working in Movie Maker next week.
As always…don’t forget to do the blog posts and four comments.
Top Ten blog posts for the week of 10/14
Monday’s class will start with a quick HWYW and then we will record a podcast about the blog entries from the last two weeks! I have had so many people come up and tell me about their post from last week that I think we should stop and talk about them. There will actually be four conversations (don’t ask me how they will fit into a 50 minute period). One on the podcast post(only Ruby and Sapphire), one on the “learn something new” post, one on the Blog Action Post, and one reflecting on the experience of writing songs about events preceding the Revolutionary War. We will probably have some type of vote to determine an order because there will be no way to do all four!
Last minute change! Will be announced in class.
Blog Posts Due Friday:
Post #1 will be on one blog post that you find written about any topic that you choose — not another students’. You can do a simple google search for blog and the topic. For example, I found a very interesting blog when I googled “blog + insect.”
Ok. That is simple right? You find a blog and read it.
Next step
1-comment the blogger and let them know what you thought about the blog post.
2-On your blog write about what you thought of the post you read. What blogs did you consider, how did you stumble upon the one you used, what did you learn, describe any thoughts on it. Include a quote from the post you read (indent and highlight it — I will show you how to do this in class). Follow the quote with why it is important in helping you make your point. Also, include a verbatim copy of the comment (or link to it) you left for the blogger. And of course, a picture and link to the blog.
Post #2 is even more challenging…
Email a company or organization a question and blog about why you picked the company, the question, and the response. If you do not have email use the shaggyhill+ and tell me you did so I can watch for the response. Search for the company’s website and look for the “contact” link. If you need to use the team email account because you cannot email directly from the site, write down the email address and see me 8th period or tutorial. Include a picture and link.
I will discuss both of these posts in detail during Monday’s class.
If you have a chance, go to Brittany B’s Blog (link is fixed) and check out her post from October 14 — help her get to 1000 views! Leave her a comment!
I am tired. T - I - R - E - D. While you may have only been working on the New Jersey songs for one period each day I was doing it all day each day for almost two weeks! I have answered 24, 419 questions and did not get to 5,294 other questions. Today is a wrap up and clean-up day. No more questions please!! (Of course I really don’t mean that..well…)
Today’s agenda:
Before you start working check out this video: http://www.eepybird.com/exp144.html…then go to your wiki page and make five edits. We are about 67 edits from making it onto the wikispaces homepage…then…
1-Double check your podcast. Some people in Sapphire put their podcast on the wrong site and they were deleted. And it gets better…some people in sapphire put their podcast in the right spot and a certain teacher accidentally deleted them. The Mp3 is still there, you just need to add the description. Everyone change your title to this: NAME OF SONG, Class, Initials
2-Feel free to listen to as many of the podcasts as you would like. It’s collaborationnationX08.podomatic, the X is what you switch for each class.
3-Clean out your wiki mail and moderate your blog comments.
4-Go blogging. Read posts from our team and the blogging buddies. Please leave comments on both.
..and visit Brittany B’s site in Seymour and help her meet her goal!
TS–respond to my wiki mail!
Okidokie pokies…this week’s agenda is easy.
Your simple (whu ha ha) task is to have your songs placed on your podcast page by the time you walk out of class on Thursday. Check out the wiki for directions on how to open Audacity and get your NJ song onto it to record over and edit.
Blog Posts:
You will be one of the 12,316 bloggers participating in Blog Action Day. For more information on what your first post will be about, please visit the official Blog Action Day site. There are three ways to participate–your are going to choose “Post on your blog relating to the environment” and follow the directions there.
The second post was inspired by a comment from a parent at Friday’s meeting (Thanks Mrs. G). It must be about something you know nothing about right now as you read this. It could be something you heard about and would like to find more information on, or you could just start randomly searching the internet or reading a magazine. Please only do something that interests you! In your post there needs to be a picture and a link. Please share with us what you learned.
…and as always, please leave comments on other’s blogs(4)
Today is all about finishing the lyrics to the songs. When you walk in on Monday you need to have all of the lyrics done, finished, complete. Next week is all about recording and editing. By the end of class on Thursday, you need to have your song posted on your classes podcast page.
Today’s Agenda:
1-Check in with progress on Blog entries due Friday
2- Listen to songs completed by New Jersey kids — learn how to pick out where to place lyrics
3-Review directions for writing song lyrics
If you want to listen to the songs New Jersey has sent us follow these directions . Check wikimail for username and password.
First, check out Eepybird
The actual class assignments will be coming but here are the blog assignments:
Homelearning due on Friday:
Ruby & Sapphire — one “25 Styles of Blogging” post and one comment on our blogs… and this gem
Emerald and Amathyst — Two Blog posts and two comments. First blog post can be on any topic written in one of the “25 Styles of Blogging” due on Friday. Second post should answer the question: What current event will have the biggest impact on your life? Include at least one link and picture to a news story on that current event.
Stuck finding stuff to blog about? Check our Lorelle’s post!
Ahhh…running behind so this will be quick. We have started blogging with a class in New Zealand and Seymour, CT. Today we are going to begin work with Franklin Avenue Middle School in New Jersey!
Today we will finish the movie and I will introduce the project we will be doing with the kids from New Jersey. We will end the class listening to and playing the type of music that they will be sending to us — 12 Bar Blues.
